Here is an overview of the types of trial events our club attends, and roughly when they are held.
All trial dates are subject to change to avoid conflicts with other clubs and public holidays. Actual dates are published on our Calendar as far ahead of time as possible.
Regular Trials
Club Trials & Club Champs
Club Trials or Club Champs are on the first Sunday of each month, with the exception of the BSA Shield in November.
Club Trials - Are held on the even months. They are a friendly event giving everyone an opportunity to get some practice in. Scores for the day are not counted towards any competition. They’re just a benchmark for you to judge how well you did for the day.
Club Champs - Are the clubs annual competition. Trials for the champs are held in May, July, September, November and March. Scores for these days count towards the competition rankings, with the best 4 out of 5 contributing to your overall score.
Club AGM & Prize Giving- Held in April, a trial followed by our annual club meeting, and prize-giving for the Club Champs and other awards.
Twin Shocks & Have a Go Day
Everyone is welcome on our Have-a-Go days. They’re a trial catering to twin-shocks, kids, and beginners. With easier sections set out, they’re a perfect way to get acquainted with the sport.
These are usually held on March, May, July, September and November on the second Sunday of the month.
Special Events
Tour De Judds
Held on the Wellington Anniversary weekend in January, Tour De Judds is a friendly roving trial covering some some of the best open country trials areas the club has access to.
Bring lots of water and snacks! It’s usually a long fun day in the sun.
JRL Roving Trial
A two day “roving trial” in the Maungatuks to celebrate the life of James Robert Lawton who inspired us, by doing like he did: going into the “maungies” on trials bikes with our mates, getting covered in mud and having as much fun as a man can stand.
With overnight camping available from the Friday, it’s a fun family friendly weekend for everyone. Bring your bike, camping gear, and a load of extra fuel.
This is held around the 20th of February each year.
BSA Shield
Our annual grudge-match with Orion Manawatu. The host for this is alternated each year between us and Orion.
Held each November on the 2nd Sunday of the month.
Scores for the BSA Shield are used as a round in the Ixion Club Champs.
Kaikoura 3 Day
A 3 day trial hosted by the Pioneer Motorcycle Club every Kings Birthday Weekend since 1946.
Not just an opportunity to ride, but also to socialise in the evenings. A number of Ixion members travel down for this one each year.
